We start by addressing Avrilanche — Joey, the goalie from last week. He played well. I was impressed — had a great game. Sorry that he came up on the short end of the stick, but he probably would have saved more goals if he wasn’t looking in the crowd. But I appreciate him finding me, I guess.

I do not know anybody on the Avs, but I don’t know that the Avs need a goalie. Especially one that’s checking out the people in the stands. Anyway, good luck the rest of the season to Joey.

And now that we’re on to hockey — I’m getting good at these segues — we can talk about last night’s game. Big Monday night hockey, 10:30 was the puck drop. The Broncos were able to notch their third win. They are now 3-2-1, which is the first time they’ve ever been above .500 in Broncos hockey history. Breaking down all types of barriers.

It was another tight game until the end. I think it was 2-3 going into the third period, and we reeled off three third period goals — the tying goal from Harry and the winner from Kenny Chavez, both in our equipment department. It was a great game. And then somebody else tacked one on at the end just for good measure.

I was disappointed that they didn’t score on the empty net. They were nice — it didn’t seem like anybody was trying to. I was very disappointed. I’m all for piling on, because we’ve been piled on quite a few times. So, work on that.

We had a star-studded crowd. Tony Scheffler, “The Future” Jay Cutler and everybody’s favorite Bronco Rod Smith. This is Rod’s second game. Scheff and Cut, their first. I’m really excited that the fans are starting to get behind the Broncos. We all hung out afterwards to get autographs and high-fives. Kenny, because he had the goal he thought he was too good to sign. I think I might have got Flip’s mouthpiece or something. It was the most exciting day of my life, and it was cool that the players are getting on the Broncos hockey bandwagon. But I want everybody to know I’m in the driver’s seat of the bandwagon. I am the Barrel Man of the Broncos hockey team — half Barrel Man, half Bronco Betty. All night long after the game I kept saying, “I love you guys.”

I felt like Bronco Betty, because I was out until three in the morning with my Broncos. She’s definitely here at all hours.

I don’t really have any plans yet for the 4th of July. We’ll see. Been invited to a couple of parties, so I might do one of those.

The whole week off last week I went down to the Boys & Girls Club about three times during the week off, which was cool. The Pajama Jammy Jam on Friday — all the kids wore pajamas and they had a party. I’m up to date on all the dances that the kids are doing now. I forgot my pajamas, though. I actually was coming from a meeting with Pat Hamill, who’s the president of Oakwood Homes. He’s one of the most impressive people I’ve met since I’ve been in Colorado. His success in the business world and world of real estate, and his success in his philanthropic endeavors. It’s really impressive and inspiring.

Before I had the meeting with Pat Hamill I had a meeting with Cindy and Kelly at INVESCO about the progress of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center and fundraising strategies so we can get it up and running and all that sort of stuff, which was a really exciting meeting. This is something that’s important to me, so that’s cool.

But I went from that meeting with Pat to the Pajama Jammy Jam on Friday, which was pretty cool. I’ve come to the realization that I’m not cool any more, which is fine. I used to know all the dances and know everything that was cool when I was 16 or so, but I’m just a guy. I was in the party looking confused, kinda. It was kinda cool — made me feel like an adult. Every now and then I have those moments.

On Wednesday I think it was I went over there and played basketball for like three hours with the boys. It’s clear that they’re all better basketball players than me. I was able to hold my own just because I’m a pretty good athlete. But as far as dribbling and shooting — the basics of the game — I might have been the worst man on the floor. But it was a good time, and my team one a lot which is always important. I don’t like losing.

I wasn’t picked first, which kind of hurt me a little bit. They picked some kid before me. But it’s all right — I was better than him.

I probably shouldn’t go backwards in my storytelling, but anyway.

That was on Wednesday. On Tuesday we had class. We had a tough time focusing on writing — we all did. So one of the girls who I’ve been really impressed with the whole time performed a monologue that she performed at some speech and performing competition. She performed a monologue for us. It was about 10 minutes. There are no words to describe it — it was pretty impressive. She’s really talented. I think she’s going to apply to Julliard and NYU — some pretty heavy hitter schools. She sings and does all kinds of cool stuff. I was really impressed with her. We really struggled, but fortunately Passion Lyons was there to rescue our class.

We were talking about her future, and at Julliard auditions she’s going to have to sing and she doesn’t really know how to read music yet. So, I told her that I would find somebody to come teach her how to read music. She can sing, she just can’t read it. So that’s one of my goals now — my mission is to find somebody who can teach her how to read music and will come share their time. Maybe the 17th Avenue Allstars would like to give back to the community.

We’ve been going for a couple of months now with the writing class, so this week we’re going to go to ESPN Zone. I spend a lot of time at ESPN Zone — they get a lot of my money. But I think it’s going to be a great experience. Just be fun. The girls have been coming and working hard and writing and I think we’ve all improved our writing, especially myself. Very competitive, so I won’t let any of them win at anything. I’ll be very disappointed in myself if I lose. I’m going back to the Football Toss to see if I can break my record.
